Time for a new portrait.
Some photographs aren’t planned. They begin with a feeling.
I’ve been listening to a lot of David Sylvian recently, and I found myself drawn back to the atmosphere of those old vinyl album covers. Rather than copying one, I wanted to explore what that mood looked like through my own lens.
The first frame stayed close to the original inspiration, but it didn’t feel authentic. So I kept experimenting, changing the pose, adjusting the light and refining the story.
Eventually, it became something completely different.
I imagined standing outside my front door, coat in hand, taking a quiet moment before the day begins. One light fired into an umbrella was all it took to create the final image.
For me, that’s what creativity is about. Inspiration can come from anywhere, but the most satisfying photographs are the ones that evolve into something uniquely your own.
