AI and Photography: Why Real Moments Still Matter

I’ve been thinking about how artificial intelligence might change photography over the next five years. With AI already producing remarkably realistic images, will businesses still need professional photographers?

I believe they will, and this photograph explains why.

At a recent BNI meeting, Sauren was presented with an award by Zoe in recognition of his services to the network. As the rest of the team watched and applauded, they shared this lovely moment of affection.

Nobody posed. Nobody was directed. I simply recognised the moment and pressed the shutter.

AI could recreate something that looks almost identical, but it couldn’t truthfully claim that moment actually happened.

And I think the same principle applies to business portrait photography.

AI can generate a polished headshot, but does it genuinely represent the person behind the business?

When I photograph someone, I’m not just capturing their appearance. I’m getting to know them, helping them relax and bringing out their natural personality.

A professional business portrait should make you look your best, but more importantly, it should look like you.

As AI becomes more sophisticated, I believe authenticity, trust and genuine human connections will become increasingly valuable.

Because photography isn’t simply about creating beautiful images.

It’s about capturing real people, real personalities and real moments.

I’m Raymond Jones, a commercial photographer specialising in business portraits and food photography across Chester, Cheshire and North Wales.

If your business needs professional portraits that reflect the real people behind your brand, I’d love to hear from you.
